I'm thinking of painting my wheels (with the tires on). Has anyone done this before? What kind of paint should be used? I assume all you need is primer and paint. I have some old school gold 15" Venta wheels that I want to paint either black or gun-metal. Any tips are welcome. TIA

Find a place that does powder coating. Get them to powder coat them. it'll be more worth it, they will have to take the tires off, but the finish will last longer and its not too expensive either. I dont know what cost is around your area, but i had a guy quote me $50 a rim for a powder coating, not too bad.

i have painted rims with the tires on them before. i think duplicolor makes rim paint, just mask off the tires, scuff up the wheels with some scotch brite and clean them real good. then spray with rattle can or if you know someone that can do it with a real spray gun. then just lay a few coats of clear on top. good luck

There's a place here that does them for $50 a rim. They bake them down to the metal, and then powdercoat them. Powdercoating will last on a rim for a long time. The powdercoating process draw the paintstuff into the poors of the metal and adheres everything electrically and then bakes it there. Man you can't beat that stuff. I'm getting it done once I get the integra on the road.

You guys got me thinking, I was going to paint these GSR rims Im getting from Dropshop "Still waiting wink" but now I wonder if I should just get them powder coated?

91ZC - I called Myers and asked them if they do powdercoating to rims. They said only valve covers. How far is Myers from Maple Grove?
